CAPTAIN JOHN FLINT CAHAN, C.E.
Residing at Belmont.

Heard the explosion and realized that there would be need for his services. Sent servant John, into town for taxi. Got himself dressed, putting on such remnants of uniform as he retained, most having been left behind in France. The idea being that an officer in uniform would be able to go where his servant could not. Returned to city with servant, raided a drug-store, securing bandages, peroxide, etc. Bandaged people in the street who seemed to require aid, and transferred injured persons to hospital. Returned home at 8 p. m. exhausted but "happy" to think that he had been of some service.
Note. Captain Cahan received severe spinal injuries at the battle of Courcellette, is paralyzed from the waist down and is subject to constant pain.
Did twenty dressings himself.
