hospital. Now they are all together under the care of relief nurses and V.A.D. The matron is Miss Gilchrist from Winnipeg, sister of Mrs. Anderson.
The Imperial Oil Company put their men out of their shanties, and took in about two hundred refugees for five weeks, from the North End of Dartmouth. These people had no homes. The Imperial Oil Co. furnished transportation, food and lodging. One feature was a Christmas tree for the youngsters, for which the employees subscribed $180. It was very prettily decorated with colored electric lights, and, for once some of the youngsters had enough to eat.
NOTE Mr. Johnston and Mr. Baker were very prominent in relief work. The most tireless workers were our clergy. All the teachers gave their time.
NOTE The doctors made no charge for their work, but received an honorarium from the Relief Committee of $300.
NOTE Mrs. Clara Creighton has been at relief work morning, noon, and night.
NOTE There was no church the first Sunday. Rev. Mr. Nicholson was handing out tar-paper all day. On the second Sunday there was a Union service in the parish hall of Emmanuel Church. After this the Anglicans had their services by themselves and the Presbyterian was used for Union services until a month ago. The basement of the Presbyterian church has been used as a boarding-house for the workmen engaged in reconstruction.
NOTE Many people opened their houses to refugees. It was difficult to get people to leave their houses for the various shelters, even if there was only one room there. The people who needed help most were
