Harold Bishop, of Auburn, Nova Scotia was a member of the Class of 1917 at Acadia University. Upon completing his sophomore year in 1915 he, along with the majority of men in his graduating class, joined the 4th University Company of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. This is a compilation of his letters sent from training bases and the front lines of France to the home front. In them, he thanks those who wrote to him and sent parcels, as well as he advises his brothers how they should enlist. A personal story of military service, including mention of the loss of friends in combat. Bishop demonstrateds his attachment to family, the importance of his faith, and the connections to those he knew on the campus of Acadia and in his home community. Includes index.

The stories are arranged chronologically by date of death and covering the years 1915 to 1917 inclusive. The profiles provide a glimpse into the events of the war through the soldiers' stories. While the majority served with Nova Scotian battalions, some served with units from New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario and Western Canada, also providing a glimpse into the roles of various military battalions and some non-combat units in the war's events.
