Two brothers from Devon : Joseph and Henry Brimicombe to Nova Scotia / compiled by Al Short. Middleboro, Mass. : Al Short, 2015. viii, 299 pages : illustrations ; 28 cm.
Nova Scotia Archives Library - CS90 B849 2015 - Open Shelf
Gives the early records of the Brimicombes in the village of Stoke Gabriel in the South Hams area of Devon, England. Over 200 years of Brimicombes is contained in this genealogical history. It starts in 1785 with the marriage of John Bramicombe and Susanna Shout in the village. The main focus of this book is on two sons of John Brimicombe who came with Col. Laurie to the then wilderness of Oakfield to help build a productive farm. They left their two small families behind until homes were ready for them. Little is known about the journeys of these Brimicombes to Nova Scotia. Canada had recently become a new country within the United Kingdom and no records of the 1870s ship arrivals in Halifax has been found. The two families grew as other children were born in their new country. The Oakfield farm prospered and the brothers later had their own farms in Nova Scotia. The Brimicombes spread across Canada and the United States. Many moved to the big cities of Halifax, Ottawa, Boston and New York. Over 3500 Brimicombe descendants and related kin are identified. the book includes the vital records of those who have passed on and the names of living descendants.
