Defend it if the Governor and Council Judged it proper to put him in possession, because that he would by no Means hold it any Longer by Virtue of his former Lease, nor (not knowing how soon his Majesty may See Causeto Recall him) be other ways bound to keep and possess it, than his own Conveniency would permitt

And being Ordered to withdraw, The Board Agreed that as it was for the Benefit of the Said John Hobby Esq That that part of his Estate Should if possible, be preserv'd from Ruine; To put WilliamShirreff Esq in possession of the aforesaid house & Tennement, And Accordingly Resolved

That the Said William Shirreff for and in Consideration of his Several Improvements allready made, the Risque, Expences, & other Inconveniencys he hath or hereafter [85] Hereafter may be put to, for the Defence of Said house & Tennament, Be hereby (and not by Virtue of any Lease or Articles of Agreement made with Said John Hobby Esq) put and Authoriz'd to hold, keep, Use, Occupy and possess the said Tennament &.ca fully and freely with a11 its Improvements and Appurtenances thereunto belonging for and During (if his Conveniencys will him so permitt) the Tarm of Seventeen Years from the Date hereof, Rent-free for and in Consideration of the Premisses
