At a Council held at the Honourable L.t Governour John Doucett's house in his Majestys Garrison of Annapolis Royall on Munday the 5thof September 1726

The Honourable Presid.t Acquainted the Said two Gentlemen of the Board that Mr Joseph Bissell being Arrived here from Shickanecto had brought a french Gentleman belonging to Quebeck a passenger along with him who was Come for the Protection of this His Majestys Government having had the Misfortune to Wound Mons.r Lestage a Gentleman belonging to Said place who in two Days After Died. The Honourable Presid.t therefore Asked what Should be Done

Mon.r Mangeant wounding a Gentleman is received unter the protection of this Govern.t |

Agreed that he Should be Examined Upon the Cause and provocation given to Move him to Such an Unfortunate Act

Whereupon the Said Gentleman whose Name is Mangeant being Sent for was Ask'd what proofs and Evidences he had to produce that Could anyways Justife or Seam to favour his Rash precipitated Action
|

The Said Monsr Mangeant Presented to his Honour Three papers (as per the Coppy thereof Upon file) which being Read and Considered
|

Agreed and are of oppinion that According to the Sev.l Certificates and the Account thereof given that the afore Mentioned Lestage Did most Basely and Hineously Insult, Affront And provock the Said Mons.r Mangeant and therefore are of Oppinion that Such protection as is Allowed in Such Cases by the Law of Nations, be Granted to him the Said Mons.r Mangeant till [166J Till Contrary Proofs be produced of Said Mangeants Behaviour and Character
