brothers family, remember me particularly to them
and to the good natured kind Mrs T. Eason — tell
her I expect all is going on as she promised
me when I saw her at poor Barteaux house
-how are Barteaux family? I hope his death
did not do them much harm.
To my brother hunters Riarson, Harry & Woodbury
remember me also — tell Woodbury that I
got the candles he was good enough to [leave]
for me & that I thank him for them — I
have sent [L100] of them to England &
I burn the other once a month in
commemoration of the pleasant day we spent
killing the moose that afforded them.
to all my friends remember me — to all my
enemies say they have mistaken me, for I would not
give offence intentionally unless I was ill used
and them I would not spare my own brother
-farewel my dear friend & believe me
          as ever faithfully yours
          Jno. C. Carter
