the following summer under the medical superintendance of my father and myself. They were then removed to the Military Hospital at Melville Island. Upon their removal from the Poor House I was requested to send in my account for Medicines and Attendance, which I did amounting to £192.17.6. His Excellency Sir John Sherbrooke said he did not feel himself justified in paying me more for my attendance upon the negroes than I received from the Commissioners of the Poor, and therefore allowed me £56.3 being at the rate of £85 per [Ann] (transcribers note: i.e. per annum] -- for the time which these persons were under my charge. As I was considerably a loser by the medicines which I had supplied these unfortunate people, I petitioned the House of Assembly who without a dissentient voice allowed me the remainder of my account £136.14.6.
