Both the Barrington Meeting House and the Covenanter Church, Grand Pré, are extant examples of the earliest type of Protestant meeting houses in Nova Scotia which closely resemble a dwelling house with the main entrance centered along the length of the building. The Barrington Meeting House (1765) is the earliest surviving example of this genre of church architecture in Canada.
