The note on the photograph states: "no doubt of the Charitable Irish Society of Halifax, N.S., which was Founded in 1786, and which probably belonged to one of its earlier presidents whose name is now unknown. From 'Brookville', home of Samuel Gay Black (1825-1908) near Martock, Windsor, Nova Scotia. Original belongs in 1932 to Rev. Canon W.S. Morris of Halifax."
