The United Nations designated 1975 as International Women's Year. In celebration of the year, the Charitable Irish Society invited Phyllis R. Blakeley to speak to the society on 17 November 1975; she was the first woman to speak to the Charitable Irish Society since its founding in 1786. Phyllis Blakeley's extensive personal papers are held in Nova Scotia Archives and Records Management (MG 1, volumes 3000-3128, 3184) and include a file of research notes for this talk.
