The original records include 7,155 names and are located in RG1, Vols. 446 and 447. A description of the records and list of communities is included. This census was transcribed and published by the Nova Scotia Archives in 1979; the 1827 Census was unusually rich in detail, and the work done in 1979 has enabled greater search flexibility now, namely the ability to search on religion, occupation and community via the drop-down menus, in addition to searching on individual names. Please note that the 1827 Census also identifies African Nova Scotian ('Black') and Mi'kmaq ('Indian') residents in the returns.
