Acadian Cemeteries

Detail of the monument dedicated to the 14 founding men — NB fleur-de-lys. The first chapel was built at the end of "Plantin" in 1800. It was here that the first church dedicated to St. Apollinaire was built in 1812. Across from it was the first cemetery where the 14 elders: Peter O'Quin, Anselme O'Quin, Pierre Bois, Greg Maliette, Lazard White, Joseph Desveaux, Jos. Bouderoit, Jos O'Quin, John Chiasson, Joseph Godet, Justin Desveaux, Paul Chiasson, Basile Chiasson, Ray Poirier (Charter, 27 sept. 1790) Monument erected 5 June 1955,year of the Acadian bicentenary "Vive Jésus et Marie" (St Jean Eudes) Les paroissiens de Chéticamp
