Acadian Cemeteries

Bilingual bronze plaque dated 1981 — Province of Nova Scotia — During the winter of 1755, Pierre (Piau) Belliveau and 120 Acadians took refuge here and escaped the Deportation. On September 8, 1769, the missionary Abbé Bailly celebrated the first mass in Clare. In 1774 this site was blessed by Abbé Mathurin Bourg and became the first cemetery in Clare.
