McClelland and Stewart, Toronto and Montreal, published Ox Bells and Fireflies and Walter Richards drew the line drawing. K.W. (Keith) Bissell gave glowing praise of Ox Bells and Fireflies in his letter of 13 November 1968.
The Chief Supervisor, Music Department, Scarborough Board of Education, wrote''...Ox Bells and Fireflies is a sheer unbelievable, intoxicating delight! It soars, swoops, moves one to tears, lifts one to the 'stars' -- like its author, it is bawdy, eloquent, passionate, all-encompassing -- it is par excellence the Canadian masterpiece.''
