Hantsport and Area, collected by B.R. Alexander

Photographer A. E. Cornwall gives us a vibrant view into life in Hantsport and its surrounds at the turn of the century, capturing the people and industry of these thriving communities both in formal portraiture and in more casual shots. This area has deep connections to Nova Scotia’s rich shipbuilding heritage, a fact beautifully on display in this community album.

The glass plate negatives making up part of the collection were salvaged from A. E. Cornwall’s then-abandoned former home near Hantsport by B. R. Alexander, likely in the late 1970s. A selection of more modern images from the 1960s is also included here, possibly taken by Alexander himself.
