Spoils of War: Privateering in Nova Scotia

American master dies in Melville Island prison

As the war progressed both sides became increasingly reluctant to parole prisoners. Accordingly, many sailors endured a long captivity in Halifax’s Melville Island prison camp. Some, like Captain Rich, never returned home.
