Spoils of War: Privateering in Nova Scotia

New Englanders responded to the coming of war ambiguously. While refusing to send their land-based militia into enemy territory, they enthusiastically launched privateers against British and colonial shipping. By mid-July 1812, Nova Scotian newspapers were reporting heavy losses to enemy raiders.
