644. Benjamin David to Gideon White in England. ''I came in hopes of finding a Conveyance to Boston intending to pass the Winter there, I am however too late - the Winter having Set in, it becomes too hazardous for Smaller Vessels to Attack the Boisterous Bay of Massachusetts. I therefore lay my Account to pass the Winter here - I have found some amusement in being present at the Election of Members for the House of Assembly - the principal opposition has been with Col. Pike & Mr. A. Blecher - at the Close of the Poll a Majority of 3 only appeard in favr. of Col. Pike of course he will be returned by the Sheriff as duly elected - a Scrutiny has however been demanded by Mr. B. & it is thot he will finally succeed in obtaining a Seat in the House - the hottest Contest has been with the Candidates for the County - in which Mr. Wallace & Mr. Hartshorne have been thrown out - Tonge & Morris - with 2 Members from the Country have been returned by a large Majority....the House meet in Feby.- I may therefore find some amusement in attending the debates - it is tho't there will be a push to get in Tonge as Speaker.'' List of goods which he might buy for the Halifax Market. Holograph.
