Cottnam Tonge to Gideon White, in receipt of letter. ''Before I had received your Letter of the 17th October, which only came to Hand last Evening having heard of the Illness of my Deputy Mr. Hutchins I had determined on applying to you either to accept my Deputation or recommend a proper Person to fill the office I have therefore only to say that it gives me pleasure to find that it will suit your Conveniency to take Charge. In case of Mr. Hutchins' demise you will please to give me notice of the Event when I will forward you a proper Deputation Instructions &c. in the mean time this will be a sufficient Warrant to you to undertake the Business until they arrive.'' Holograph.
