317. Duplicate of letter of 2 August from James Ballmer to Gideon White. Details re Lord Charles Montague's effects and accounts, which Ballmer has in charge. "The half pay is not finally settled for both Battalions I happen'd to be here in good time & put the Batts. together which had the proper effect, but I have had as much attendance for it on Ld. Sydney as if it had been the greatest favour & for some time the 2nd Battn. was very doubtful. The Bat & Forage money I applied for to Gen. Campbell, before I came from Jamaica ...but I see very little hopes of it I observe the Lands are not to be granted without the Officers or Men are on the Spot..." Asks to have his proportion of lands made out since he expects to arrive soon."I am trying to indent some Carpenters &c. but Government will not give passage to them as yet, I have also applied for some Women & I believe a few will come." Intends to carry on fishery and wants lot in Manchester. Postscript, 26 Sept. re halfpay. [Both in Ballmer's writing.]
