1823 20 Sep Shelburne
1143. Copy of complaint of James Fortune to the Lt.-Governor against the conduct of Gideon White and the other magistrates of Shelburne, who refused to take any action on Fortune's being beaten by a negro. "I serv'd in the Royal British Artillery Twenty Years and Eleven days and out of that I was six years on the Peninsula and the last Action I was in was Waterloo and it grieves me much to think I have had such such (sic) good luck to escape so many balls and now to come to Nova Scotia and be murdered by a Villain and no law no Justice."
