Bill of sale for slave 'Sambo', recorded at the Pictou County Registry of Deeds

Archibald Allardice records the sale to Dr. John Harris of "one Negro man named Sambo aged twenty-five years or thereabouts and also one brown mare and her colt now sucking."

Dr. John Harris, brother of Matthew, was born in Philadelphia in 1737 and died at Truro in 1802. Dr. Harris was one of the original settlers on the Philadelphia Grant at Pictou, 1767. He was the first Justice of the Peace and first registrar of deeds for Pictou County, and member of the Assembly for Truro township, 1782-1785. Archibald Allardice was a British naval lieutenant (acting lieutenant HMS Unicorn 1778) and a veteran of the American War of Independence. He was granted 500 acres in Pictou County in 1784.
