Sable Island, Nov. 12th 1832

Gentlemen

I am sorry to have to Inform you, of the Loss of the Brig Floyd, belonging to Boston, U.S. from Cronstadt, Russia, bound to Boston. Captn- Howland, with a full Cargo, was wrecked on the NE Bar on the [8th?] of October, Three Men in one Boat attempted to Land on the Island, before we could give them any assistance the Boat upset, and the Mate & one Seaman was Drowned, the Captn- and Six Men in another Boat we got safe on shore with considerable Difficulty, having had to Launch off a Whale Boat through a very heavy sea and Conduct her on Shore, the Brig remained whole four Days, and although we made frequent attempts to get on Board of her, we never could succeed she being Ten Miles from the Land,

We are not in want of any thing for the Winter, except some small articles, as per memorandum.
