Thirdly, I might want in the Event of ever getting ashore on the Beach, a good Fall & Blocks to Haul [illegible] also I might want a good Jack Service to shove her off

Now the Idea of wilfully imposing on the Commissioners to bring them into a measure that might be hazardous, or not productive of any good, makes me shudder - consequently as this is an Enterprise that no one knows any thing about but myself, and that not from experience, I was willing to try the thing myself so that if it did not succeed, there would be none to complain and if it Did that the Property should be mine, that I should have the Benefit of all the Materials I could finnish here without any Change that I should have the assistance of the Hired Servants here, that I should have some Benefit from her afterwards to pay the expense of keeping her up but if the Commissioners would rather Build her themselves, I should be much better pleased and when our other Business did not interfere I would lend my heart & hand to have her Completed and would send the moulds by the next opportunity for what Timbers I should want as I would wish to have her Built here under my own Eye

I have shipped Ten Mares & Horses and a Colt which I hope will arrive safe

Darby outlines his opinions on what would be needed in order to build boats (dispatch boats) on Sable Island, and the benefits of doing so. He also writes of supplies sent to the island, horses to be sent to the mainland, and problems in growing hay.
