Sable Island, July 31,1832
Sir,
The vessel not sailing last night, I went on board this morning where I found one of the fine mares dead and Capt Thomson complained that he had no one to attend them, so that I have sent John Stevens off to take care of them, and has taken a very ordinary hand in his place, and to make the number of horses up, I have sent a young horse, in place of the mare that died, he has been cutt about 10 or 20 days, and although not quite well is perfectly out of danger and will make a good horse.
Yours sincerely
Joseph Darby
