Sable Island, July 30th 1832

Sir,
I received your much esteemed Favour of the 21 last, and with it the [Bernting?], Pepper, Mustard, Milk, pans, and a bake oven, also a Saddle, & Bridle, that I have brought here, the Bill of which is enclosed, it is an article we want much, and I beg you will present the bill for approval, I also send you four young horses, not exceeding three years old, two of them has been rode on, and they have all been cutt, one well, the danger over with them.
Also three good mares, one of them I suppose the finest mare on the Island, none very old, I hope these will bring a good price, as I have another full Cargo ready and would be glad to have the vessel back as soon as possible.
It is a very backward season here, I am afraid I will have some difficulty in processing hay for our stock which is increasing fast, potatoes are just beginning to grow and look well some of them, others have never come up but the[y] died rotted

Letter discusses supplies provided to the Establishment, and horses sent off the Island in return. Darby describes the 'backward' season they are having on the Island, which may cause some difficulty in providing enough hay for the Island livestock. He describes the success of some crops and the failure of others.
