Halifax, 15th August 1831
Gentlemen,
The Ship Courser Lewis Russell Master from Russia bound to New York having been stranded on Sable Island on 18th October last and a [part?] of her cargo together with her sails, Rigging were got on shore by the Province Establishment on the Island aided by the Crew who were all saved and brought up here.

The Island Establishment being entitled to a Salvage or property saved which has been sold at Pubic Auction the amount thereof you will receive by the account sales herewith enclosed, and I have to request the favor of you Gentlement to consider and determine what amount of Salvage the Province shall receive out of the proceeds.

Includes letter from Michael Wallace outlining the issue of how money earned from auctioning the Courser's salvage should be paid out, and asking for judgment from the three referees: Enos Collins, John Albro and James H. Tidmarsh.

Also includes decision by said referees, awarding 462 pounds to the Humane Establishment as Salvage.
