"To Miss D L Dix
Madam
I have had the pleasure of bringing to the notice of the Committee of this Institution, the papers which you did me the favor to entrust to me for that purpose - And wherein were set forth, the valuable services of Cap.tn [Captain] McKenna, and the men who serve under him at Sable Island, in saving the lives of the Crew and passengers of the "Arcadia" and other vessels wrecked on its dangerous shores, and I am much gratified to inform you that the Committee have unanimously voted the Gold Medal of the Corporation to Cap.tn [Captain] McKenna, and the Silver Medal to each of the men serving under him. I have also the gratification to inform you, that I am directed to forward the Medals to you for presentation, and to express to you the high sense the Committee have of your benevolent and Christian exertions in the cause of humanity, and their full assurance that you will not only do them this favor, but that it will be a pleasure to you to undertake the Office, and that it will enhance the value of the Medals to the recipients by your becoming the medium for
