New York 12th September 1854

Sir

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 26th Ulto _ and to report the arrival of the vessel with the Boats and Life saving apparatus _

Upon consultation with Walter R. Jones Esq Pres.t of our Life Saving Benevolent Ass.n + we have concluded to repair the Boats immediately _ and return the whole outfit for "Sable Island" in good order. by the same vessel which brought them _

Miss Dix you are doubtless aware has gone to Europe _ and we shall have to contribute our efforts to carry our her good intentions. with this in view, I hope the season will not be too far advanced to prevent your locating the Life saving apparatus upon Sable Island as intended by the donor _

You will hear further from me by the vessel or direct mail _ and in the meantime _
