New York 6th November 1854

Sir

I had last the pleasure of addressing you on the 12th Sep.r since when the life saving apparatus for Sable Island has been returned, but regret an error has been made in not transmitting to you, Bill Lading of the first shipment.

I now beg to enclose

Mr Merriam who also had a list of the original articles sent, was absent at the time of their return arrival, and it is only since the sailing of the last vessel, that I have obtained a copy of the original inventory _ and now find some articles missing _ to which I will call Mr Merriam's attention at once _ The only articles missing I believe, is the Harness, some rockets, and fixtures for firing Mortar.

I have had one or two letters from Miss Dix since her arrival in England, expressing
