New York 5th December 1854

D.r Sir

Your esteemed favors of the 11th & 22d Ult [ultimo = last month] have been received __ and am glad to learn that the fears expressed in your first letter as to the total loss of the Sch.r "Wave" is not confirmed. __

It does appear as though misfortune followed in the path of this attempt to Miss Dix. to [word?] a kind and generous impulse __ but I still hope to see all carried to her and her friends full satisfaction in the spring.

With regard to the freight _ for both vessels. I paid the freight for Windsor __ and stipulated for a price for the Sch.r Wave __ it was to be [underlined: paid here] __ Some misunderstand arose just on the departure of the vessel, and Bill Lading could not be altered, but the agent here said he would write and make the explanation. You will oblige therefore in taking no notice of the demand, It will be settled here. as per agreement. __
