from the peoples money I think they should be allowed to take a short sail in the one and pay a visit to the other when it does not interfere with our business and for our part we are willing to put up with any little trouble it may give us.

We have to look to you for our supply of both fish and potatoes, we have none of the latter fit for our own use nor do they seem to do much towards fattening the pigs, we have not caught above 100 Mackerel and our boats have been off trying for them half that number of times.

We have a large supply of hay secured in good order, probably the greatest quantity ever cured on the Island in one season so if you get a chance of sending on young cattle we have plenty of feed for them.

We are getting on with the new house but have not sufficient lumber to finish the inside. Yet enough to make it comfortable till we saw more, and in a few days it will be fit for our men to move into if occasion for doing so. We have been several days working about the "Guide" but the winds prevailing from the Southward and Keeping up a heavy sea prevents us from getting much from her, she is sunk deep in the sand and at times nearly covered. There is a prospect of a fair crop of cranberries and I shall have as many gathered as we can get. I have given Isabella Farquhar an order on you for £ 3"1"6 for cooking for our men from the time
