Dear Sir

As I seldom have time to write much while the Daring is here I shall now when I have leisure mention a few things to which I beg to call your attention.

In your letter dated 8th Instant you state that the Board had desided to allow me 1 1/2 per Cent on the net proceeds of sales of all property saved on the Island said percentage not to exceed £25 on any one wreck to which I object, that being far different from what was promised me when I came here. Mr. Howe distinctly told me that I should have the same amount of salary and the same rate of Commissions as was paid to Mr. Darby and referred me to the Commissioners to ascertain what that rate of Commissions was, but they have never yet satisfied me about it, and it does seem strange indeed that that they are allowed obstinately to withhold that information particularly when it is required in a transaction in which the Government are Concerned and at the same time one of the former board of Commissioners is now a Member of the Board of Works. I ask for what was promised me and nothing more and cannot be satisfied with anything less and if the former Commissioners will exhibit their Accts with Mr. Darby and show that he got even less than you offer me I will be satisfied to take the same for the time past.
