The Guide was a splendid vessel of 132 tons burthen, was built at Aberdeen in 1848 thoroughly copper fastened and Iron kneed, and sheathed with metal to 10 feet aft and 9 feet forward. She now lies against the beach deeply imbedded in the sand. her mainmast is [carried?] away below deck and hanging over the starboard side. foremast and bowsprit with jib boom standing, rudder braces on ^the stern post broken. Patent windlass and Iron pumps complete, deck partly ripped up and the tide flows and ebbs in and out of her. worth to the Establishment £10–
Mr Condon and myself have talked matters over and he will tell you better about our affairs than I can now write. Please excuse my great haste and bad writing.
