Sable Island 23rd August 1853

Dear Sir

By the Daring last evening I rec.d yours of the 20th. The Mason has finished the new chimney and repaired another and leaves today. The Blacksmith is a sickly man and I think I will send him off next time in the Daring. I have given Cap.n Daly a list of what I want by his return. You will please send the cook by return of Daring. I will do the best I can with the molasses, in my opinion you done right in buying it, and am surprised to hear that any one of common sense should object to you doing so.

The weather has been uncommonly dull and we have got no hay in the barn yet altho some has been cut down 14 days. our potatoes are entirely gone.

I send the tusk forgotten by Miss Dix.

Enclosed you have a list of cargo per Daring. Mr Condon will remain till the cutter returns.

In haste Your Ob.t Servant
M.D. McKenna
