Sable Island 13th June 1853
Dear Sir
Your letter of the 10th and [Mr Gordon's?] of same date were handed me last night by Lieutenant Lindsay and we are now embarking the Amazons crew. The Captain, a passenger and an apprentice remain on the Island until a vessel comes for the materials. I have sufficinet property in my possession to pay all expenses and you will be safe in paying the enclosed orders.
Respecting the applications for cargos of horses if you see fit to sell in that way I shall feel it my duty in the delivery of them to be guided entirely by the instructions I shall receive from you.
Our crops look promising but we have had so much trouble and loss of time about th Amazon that proper attention could not been paid to other things. There is but little done towards putting up the new house, and when convenient should like to have a carpenter..
Please pay the crew of the Amazon £6,,2,,6 currency for saving materials, and £34,,6,,9 Sterling for wages due them as will appear by their Acct.
Your Obt Servant
M.D. McKenna
Hon H. Bell
