Sable Island 18th May 1853
Dear Sir
We have after a long time got 220 barrels of herring, on board the Daring, with wich she is now starting for Halifax. The weather has been very rough and it looks as if a storm is at hand. I cannot say how many barrels are left as they are burried in the sand. Perhaps 60 good ones. Those shipped now are better than the last sent.
Brady is onboard and far off, and if you can send me a decent carpenter and blacksmith I will get things in order as far as possible. I believe that I forgot to mention that Stalkers youngest child is 21 or 12 years old and that they will have no further increase. I hope you may send the Daring right back that we many make a finish of this disagreeable job.
Your Obedient Servant
M D McKenna
Hon H Bell
