I am now at the foot of lake getting Stevens family on board the cutter and will next ship the few articles saved from the "Marie Anne". When we got the mens clothes out of the wreck. I enquired for those belonging to the man who was drowned and was told that he had all on him that was worth anything, but Cap.n complained to me a few days ago of some of the crew having taken the clothes and that they are of some value. I demanded them this morning but they deny having them so I leave the matter to be dealt with at Halifax. It is said that the man had about £7 in Mexican dollars and some papers of value but I have seen nothing of the kind. His comrade George Pierce still says that he does not know the unfortunate mans name but I do not believe him. Cap.n Desjardins say that he has 114 Mexican dollars in
received at Newfoundland, as he did not appear disposed to hand it over to me I mention it to you that you may enquire after it if you see fit to do so. It was saved by the Island crew and vesels crew together. I am now at the Eastern Station and have put what few things were saved from the Marie Anne on board the Daring, and as the wind blows too much on that part of the [^beach?] where the Ottomans cargo lies to allow us to ship the oil, we are shipping her standing rigging and will dispatch the Daring tonight in the hope of her returning immediately.
