Petition of John Arthur Phillips Esq.r and Joh Darlington Esquire _ Mining Engineers and Metallurgists of the City of London.

Petitioners ask for Licenses to search for minerals in the Isle of Sables _ The Petition has been referred to the Chairman of the Board of Works and his reply together with the terms of a former License are herewith –

I beg leave to call the attention of the Executive to the Last Clause in the Letter of Mr Keating _ With the exception of that Portion, I am of opinion that the restrictions are very proper, and should form part of the terms of a License to Petitioners _ It appears to me, very advisable to attract the attention of Capitalists and men of Science to the mineral wealth of Nova Scotia, and it would probably operate unfavorably, if the Petitioners, who may probably bring workmen with them, should be exposed to the risk of having their License terminate within so short a period as three months _ I recommend that the Claim be omitted and the privilege extend thru the whole Season, say to the first November next.
