May 26th

The Daring arrived here today but not in time for us to get anything more on board than the crew of the "East Boston" with their clothes &c &c. I am in hopes we shall get the sails and rigging shipped tomorrow. I have advised Cap.n Doane to proceed in the Daring to Halifax that he may communicate with Boston by telegraph and likewise consult with you respecting his cargo. I should like to have as little as possible to do with that cargo, especially the Brimstone. We have plenty of work of our own, yet if it is advisable to ship the Rags and Sumac to Halifax I shall do all I can to get it done, but wish to have nothing to do with the Brimstone.

The oxen cannot go while we have wreck stuff to send, but so soon as that is all off I shall be glad to send them.

27th on board the Daring

We have all the materials of the "East Boston" on board except one chain and anchor and the longboat, and are now getting off the oranges. It is impossible for me to give you a list of what is shipped we are so much hurried but I feel satisfied that everything will be correctly delivered. We have examined the cargo this morning and find it in much better condition than we expected. The vessel is now considerably hogged and her stern post is started and rudder base broken, and may be considered a wreck past repair.

Mrs McKenna is not yet confined and Dr Gilpin will remain till the Daring returns.

In haste your Obedient Servant
