Dear Sir,

Hearing that Mr Darby is to leave the Sable Island this season and take up his abode in some other quarter _ I now humbly address a few lines to you, informing you that I have been given to understand that if possible I should have charge of the Island after Mr Darby leaves it. Will you have the kindness to inform me as early as possible after the receipt of this, whether the report respecting Mr Darbys leaving the Island is true, and if it is, will you have the kindness to use your influence in my behalf. Knowing as you do, my personal character and and also of my long acquaintance with the Island, having laboured under my Father and Mr Darby for a number of years And now if the Office is to be bestowed upon another, I think an old an experienced hand would be the best person whom the charge thereof. However, I need not say any thing further than this (i.e.)

If it is to be given to another, will you be so kind as to let me know the particulars respecting it
since
