he examined the trunks and Deponent does not think he would have done so if he was conscious of having been guilty of embezzlement --- That Deponent was in and about the house of the said Mr. Darby and never saw any silks, cloths or cottons as sworn to be the said George Collingham and he thinks must have done so if the goods were in outer shed --- That Deponent heard from the passengers who came in the Maria that after the departure of Deponent the said Collingham had been detected in theft and turned out of Mr. Darby's house --- That the Deponent can not avoid giving his evidence in favour of Mr Darby who did all in his power to make the situation of the passengers comfortable and to alleviate their sufferings.
