Alexander Barron of Halifax in the County of Halifax Mariner Mate of the Brigantine Maria maketh oath and saith that he was in the Maria at Sable Island and assisted as Mate in managing said vessel and taking the cargo - That Eighteen sails were Received on board the Maria and delivered at Halifax they were Represented to have been saved from the Lancaster, that the whisky was stowed in the hold and the sails on top of it to prevent the passengers from getting access to it that after the cargo was landed at Halifax one of the Sailors of the Maria told Deponent that two of the Sails had ben removed from the hold and were in the forecastle, Deponent immediately caused the same to be removed to the place of sale -- That some of the passengers broke open several of the casks of porter
