To All Whom to these Presents
shall come John Miles Junior now at Halifax
in Nova Scotia Master Mariner Sends Greeting
Whereas on the twelfth day of March last
the said John Miles Junior sailed from Dublin in the
Kingdom of Ireland in and with and as Master
and Commander of the Brig or Vessel called the
Lancaster which was owned and registered at the
Port of St John in the Province of New Brunswick
laden with a general Cargo and having Seventy seven
passengers on board bound for the City of New York
in the United States of America _ And Whereas
on the Night of the twenty first day of May last
in very thick dark and boisterous Weather the said
Brig was accidentally shipwrecked and lost on the
South Side of the Isle of Sable but a considerable
part of her Cargo and Materials were by the exertions
of the said John Miles Junior his Crew and the
People belonging to the Island Establishment saved and
placed in the Government Stores there under the
care of the Superintendant _ And Whereas
the said John Miles Junior intends to proceed to
New Brunswick with as little delay as possible, but
he is desirous previous to his departure of appointing
an Attorney and Agent here on the part of the Owners
Underwriters and all concerned in the said Property
and Materials saved for the purpose of receiving the
same when brought to Halifax and for adjusting the
Claims of the Commissioners for managing the Affairs
of the said Island upon the same for Salvage aand
otherwise Now Know Ye that the said John
Miles junior reposing especial trust and confidence in
