Halifax Nov 9th 1835

Sir

We have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter 7th instant enclosing the Petition of Ja.s Bergen an Agent for persons interested in the American Ship Eagle lately wrecked at Sable Island requesting to know for His Excellencys information if assistance beyond our means was necessary for the saving of goods from the Wreck.

We are of opinion that one man only (and if possible he should be an Officer of the Ship Eagle) is necessary to remain on the Island during the Winter not so much to assist in the saving of property as to watch over the interests of the parties concern'd, and we are further borne out in this opinion by the Superintendants letter on that subject wherein he say, "I conceive the number too small to do any
