Halifax 20th July 1831

Dear Sir Pereguine,
I beg leave to represent your
Excellency, that for some years past, previous to the
death of Edward Hodgson the late Superintendant
of Sable Island, the interior management of that
Establishment, was very unsatisfactorily conducted
owing to the informality, and incapacity of Mr. Hodgson,
which occasioned me much trouble and anxiety;
I therefore was compelled to call into my aid, my
Son Edward Wallace, to proceed thither, and examine
into the state of the Island, and inform me of
the wants, and the improvements required, to
render the Establishment more efficient, for the
protection of property saved from wrecks until
removed, and respectable for the purposes for which
it was intended and my Son has continued to
execute
