[continued from previous page] -portunity, when he was in England, of submitting a memorandum on this subject to the Lords of the Treasury, – a copy of which he now lays before the council and in December last, in a letter to Lord Bathurst, he again urged the necessity of placing the establishment on a more efficient footing, and the propriety of relieving Nova Scotia from a part at least, of the expense of its future maintenance.

With the results of these applications the council is already acquainted; and His Excellency cannot doubt but that the legislature will gladly accede to the condition in which this liberal offer of his Majesty’s Government is made.
