Halifax January 7th 1847

Sir,

We have the honor to enclose for the information of His Excellency, the Lieutenant Governor, a letter from Mr. William Lane, dated Fayal [illegible: 12th?] Sept.r last, in which he refers to two copies of notes from His Excellency, Lord Howard de Walden, on the subject of our claim for the proceeds of the Bark "Myrtle" _

It would appear that in April 1846, an order was issued by the Portuguese Government to the Tribunal of Treasury to pay over the amount to Mr. Lane, but we regret to state that our latest advices from London give us no account of its having been received.

The object of the present communication is to ask the favor of His Excellency the Lieut. Governor, that he will be pleased once more to bring this matter to the notice of the Right Hon.ble the Secretary of the Colonies, with a view to hasten the payment of our claim.
