it would be better to divide the Island into
two Stations, Mr Dodd having the Western & he
Farquhar the Eastern, the boundry to be about
five miles about Shears', - in further conversation
he also stated, that if the men on the Island
could club together, that they could remove
any Superintendent - I said, what is your
reason for thinking so? - as (the men sent on ther
have no control of the Island, I consider that
all come perfectly under the Governor or
Superintendent of the Island, who is the only
responsible man.
I had some conversation with Humphrey
about a fortnight ago, touching the report,
about his wife - I said it was a pity
that such a story should be circulated abroad
it was derogatory to the standing and character
of the Superintendent, to be talked about, by
a parcel of boy's - he (Humphrey, said that
he felt sorry himself - that he had no fault
to find with Mr Dodd, and would have
invited him over to settle the matter, but
was over-ruled by her father Mr James Farquhar
Edward Shears examined & States
that - about two years ago Mr. James Farquhar
told me that, I had reported that Mr. Dodd
my (Shears's) wife who was at the time a Servant
woman in Mr. Dodds House - I most positively
denied saying so - and have no hesitation in saying
that it is a gross falsehood. I have known Mrs
Humphrey, - well, - about a year ago, I was sleeping
in Humphry's House, one morning she came into
the room in which I was sleeping, to grind
coffee
